Long before the current debate on scarcity of resources and climate change, Wiesner-Hager was clearly aware of the need for sustainable development. Since the mid-1980s, environmental problems have been systematically analysed at Wiesner-Hager and solved step by step. This is founded on our commitment to an active environmental policy, not limited to mere compliance with environmental legislation requirements. The firm establishment of environmental guidelines in our general corporate orientation, the introduction of environmental management systems, the preparation of an annual input-output of resources balance-sheet (continuously since 1992), and ISO 14001 certification (achieved in 1999) have marked milestones on our way towards sustainability. Along the way, we have incrementally increased our resource efficiency, reduced the quantities of waste, and closed material-circulation systems. Each and every one of these measures is aligned to the principle of sustainability.
