The Design Lab at Mendel University in Brno is an exceptional project that bridges the academic environment with the reality of contemporary design. It was created in response to the need for a space where students can learn not only theory but also practical skills – from concept to realization. The building consists of a modular container system with prominent glass surfaces, creating an open and inspiring space for teaching, exhibitions, workshops, and informal meetings.
University with practical relevance.
On the ground floor, there is a café, an exhibition area, and a terrace, while the upper floor is dedicated to lectures and creative work. The interior was developed in collaboration with students of the Furniture Design program, who contributed to both the design and production of the furnishings. The result is an authentic space that reflects the creativity and boldness of young designers.
The Design Lab aims to bring the university environment closer to the reality of business – involving companies in teaching, projects, and exhibitions. This way, students gain experience not only in design but in the entire product development process – from idea to implementation.

For this project, Wiesner-Hager supplied several types of products tailored to the diverse needs and character of each area. font chairs were chosen for classrooms and creative zones, where their lightness, modern shape, and easy mobility stand out – ideal for spaces that frequently change according to current activities.
Flexible room design.

Together, these elements create an environment that fosters creativity, collaboration, and openness to new ideas.
